Socrates died with faith and peace. The tale presented in the reading demonstrated a God minded
individual reaction to an impending death. Socrates belief in God gave him
comfort to pass on to the next realm of being. I believe it to be absent from
this world present with God. So when he died he had the understanding of his
matter, being his body, would die but his soul would be present in another realm
and would continue on. So by making the choice of not following the gods of his
leaders and knowing the consequences that would come about by his choices he
died. Just like many who choose to believe in God and not the gods or idols of
their dictator, ruler, or majority population of their place of living. Today
many like Socrates are being imprisoned and put to death for their belief.
For if Socrates would have decided
to save his flesh, which later would eventually die, and worship the gods
recognized by the State. Then he would have surely killed his soul and his
death might not have been as peaceful as it was. He would have a doubting heart
regarding those gods, and with the knowledge that he might just pass on to a realm
of everlasting turmoil and torture. Then surely his soul would have died as
well.
Our lives are guided by the decisions that we make on a
daily basis. Situations arise, but what determines the direction of our lives
are the choices we make in those circumstances. We have all been molded and
shaped to think in a particular manner. The thought processes that we use
determine our views and our choices. By expressing his views and
understandings, Socrates was also charged with corrupting the youth, by voicing
out his reasoning. As he expressed his reasoning to others those who heard him
would have had some kind of influence by him and would proceed to question or
develop what they had heard. When man rules his biggest weapon is fear, but
when fear is not part of the equation because the person being intimidated is
not fearful for his soul then there is no grasp for that dominator.
